American & British UniformsThe uniforms of the Continental Army were very plain in comparison to the bright red uniforms of the British army. Brown was the official color of the Patriots at the beginning of the war, but the colors changed as the years went on. By the end of the war American Army colors included red, blue, or brown. British soldiers were sometimes called "redcoats" or "lobster backs" because of their red uniforms. Although most people think that the British only wore red uniforms, there were some blue British uniforms during the Revolutionary War. |
